New York 1985

£18.00

Published by Chess Enterprises, 1986. 105pp,  algebraic notation.  Almost as new, other than the odd grubby marks to the covers.

The 1985 Manhattan International was a FIDE 10 strength event.  One has to go all the way back to San Antonio 1972 to find a stronger US international event.  IM Taylor has written more than a routine tournament book; he has fashioned an instructive book in the mold of the classic 'New York 1924' by Alekhine.  the deeply annotated games feature discussion of opening theory, middlegame and endgame strategies, and the happenings in a modern tournament as the players vie for prizes, honors, and FIDE titles.  The tournament featured a number of rising American chess stars and the 16-year-old Zsuzsa Polgar, highest rated player of her age in the world.
